KDHE Approves Engineering Design to Clean Groundwater at 29th and Grove Site
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) announced today that it has approved Union Pacific Railroad’s (UP’s) engineering design drawings for the groundwater cleanup systems to remediate contaminated groundwater at the 29th and Grove Site in Wichita, Kan.
UP will put the construction project out for bid and select a contractor. Construction can begin after the selected contractor obtains the necessary constructed-related permit, supplies, materials, and equipment to build the cleanup systems. UP must obtain KDHE approval for National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits for discharging treated groundwater to Chisholm Creek. UP’s applications for NPDES permits are currently under KDHE review.
On Sept. 12, KDHE will host an open house to provide information on the progress of the project.
